Beyond The Games
For the first time in Asian sports history, the heritage of the venue will inspire the athletes to go beyond the games—to leave a legacy of their own and inspire the next generation of sportsmen and women. Much more than a competition,it is a gathering of the greats in pursuit of this aspiration together.Much more than an event, it is an athletic celebration of fairness, discipline, courage and perseverance.
When I was working in Penang, I had a go at the logo since the submissions the Penang State got was bland and uninspiring. Given a blue sky brief, me and and a copywriter went to develop some sketches based on —Sun, Peranakan Tiles and other local motives. During the development, we thought it may look culturally in line with Penang but it doesn’t look like a sports logo. It somehow lacks the dynamism and the cultural elements are sort of “hindering” the essence of sportsmanship. Lastly, we settled for a simpler logo with just 4 different color strokes that forms a wave (Four strokes represent the spirit of sportsmanship – fairness, discipline, courage and perseverance). I have put the rest of the logo development below.
